Red shoes have always been magical but the wearer is often unaware of their power.
Red Shoes Facts:
Hans Christian Andersen wrote the fairy tale The Red Shoes in 1845. It inspired the British film The Red Shoes in 1948 and Kate Bush’s song and album The Red Shoes.
In the Wizard of Oz – Dorothy wore a pair of ruby slippers, unaware that they had the power to take her home (1939). MGM made four pairs for the film – this was common practice. One of the pairs had felt on the soles to muffle her footsteps while dancing. In 2005 one pair, insured for $1m USD, was stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and another pair of ruby slippers was sold at auction for $666,000USD in 2000.
In L. Frank Baum’s original novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy wore silver shoes. It’s hard to image this but it’s true. In the movie they used red ruby shoes instead to take advantage of the new Technicolor film process, giving everything a hyper-realistic, saturated level of colour!
I can’t resist a pair of patent shoes, especially red ones! These ones are Kors by Michel Kors and only £75 from Cocosa
