I rarely wear trousers but I couldn’t help but pop into Donna Ida’s shop on Elizabeth Street to see all their denim. The very friendly staff were quite helpful and ready to convert me, but in truth I’m already a big denim fan. Everyone needs one great pair of jeans and there’s no point in having a wardrobe full of jeans that you never wear.
Their most popular jeans are J Brand and Current Elliott (I’m a big fan of their t-shirts too). Donna Ida have jeans that can make your legs look longs and jeans that can give you a better looking butt! It’s all about find the right fit for your shape. It’s not surprising that Donna Ida is referred to as the Queen of Denim and she was short listed for the WGSN Global Fashion Awards for Breakthrough Brand or Retailer 2011.
Gant has opened its first UK flagship store in London on Regent Street and last night they celebrated the store opening. The menswear mainline collection is on the ground floor and on first floor there is women, children and home. Gant is quite a preppy brand but it doesn’t feel quite feel American Preppy - it has more of a European feel of preppy. It seems to take it’s influences from fashion trends rather than traditional American university looks…All the staff were wearing gingham – a nod to Christopher Kane.
I do like the visual merchandising and all the little stories that can be found in the different rooms.
Ice cream, endless pink cocktails made with jam and a fabulous DJ make a great launch party!
