For the past few days load of girls having been lining up for casting for the Ford Models Supermodel of the World UK Search. It’s not any easy decision – there are so many great girls but so few with that special something! The UK winner – who will be crowned in London on the 3rd of November – will then go on to compete against the other international winners to take home the Supermodel of the World title.
Most of the girls are quite nervous at the casting – for many of them it’s the first casting they’ve ever been too! Lots of mums with daughters – it’s quite nice actually. I think when you want to be a model you need to be confident and if you have support it’s just great! Modeling is just not an easy job – it’s looks easy and glamorous but that’s the job, to make it look easy! Most people get anxious going to a job interview but just think – a model can go to 12 more more casting i.e. job interviews per day!

Vogue.com’s Dolly Jones, designer William Tempest and Reaya Goldman, competition producer and Ford model scout will be the judges at the fashion show. The 12 finalists will participate in a fashion show styled by me with head makeup artist Lan Nguyen and hair by Tim Furssedonn from Toni & Guy.
I’ve already selected the clothes from the A/W collection of Jaeger and there are so many beautiful pieces. It should be a fun show!

A little dream of mine has always been to work on a makeup book, so when last year AOFM approached me to help collaborate on their book- Makeup is Art – I jumped at the chance. It was put together by creative directors – Lan Nquyen (William Tempest’s makeup artist) and Jana Ririnui (Head of education of AOFM) .. It’s more of a creative insight on how a makeup artist works and gets their ideas rather than a step by step how to manual on makeup. I think it’s a great resource for anyone interested in becoming a makeup artists or who is just interested in what we do.
It was fun but challenging coming up with a few concepts for the book. I tried to add a little interesting twist on each idea: for the 1950’s look I used the original Barbie Doll as a reference – making the model look almost plastic and over emphasising her top lip like the original Barbie’s. I added a splash of I Love Lucy into it too.
It only has been out a few short weeks but it’s doing really well. It’s available to buy at Charles Fox and Soho book store in London or at AOFM.

This was William’s second show at London Fashion Week – and backstage was calm and relaxed. We were very prepared – we all just wanted to do a good job and we loved the clothes, ooh and the bags – the models did too, which does make a difference. It’s true, it’s a models job to make the clothes look good but it’s just that much easier if the model feels good wearing them. Of course they liked the Bond Girl inspiration!

AOFM launched their book Makeup Is Art at London Fashion Week.

I was very fortunate to be asked by Lan Nguyen, creative director of Makeup Is Art, to write an article for the book on the relationship between the makeup artist and the stylist. Lan and I have worked together for many years on lots of different projects and we also work with William Tempest on his look books and shows.

The party was everything you expect a fashion party to be – endless glasses of champagne, with music by a cool DJ: Jody Harsh!
