I have a obsession with winter coats. I like to blame it on my Canadian upbringing. Coats are an essential part of one’s winter wardrobe – it almost doesn’t matter what you’re wearing under your coat as long as your coat looks great. We spend a lot of time thinking about our wardrobe but often we forget about the coat even though we wear a coat every day in the winter. A coat can say a lot about us. I like a coat that’s not too long, that’s warm (usually a wool cashmere blend) with good pockets and a simple cut. This allows me to get a lot of wear out of my coat and since I’m wearing it every day I want to like it and not get tired of it.
I received from Isabella Oliver which was beautifully boxed with and wrapped in tissue paper. I wanted to pick my coat online, just to see how well I could choose a coat for myself on their website. I do like shopping online but sometimes I’m never really sure how something will look, but their website has video as well, which really allows you to see how the garment moves – which is what made me really want the coat!

As a Canadian I feel I know and understand the value of a good parka. Most of them are ugly. I’m already short and feel a bit rolly-polly in a big down coat. Fortunately there are brands like Moncler who take the parka to new levels.Giambattista Valli’s Gamme Rouge collection for Moncler (the luxury Italian sportswear brand) takes the parka to places that dreams are made of! It feels like the brand went from basic down coats to a luxury fashion brand in an instant, which isn’t really true - Moncler started in the 1950s and created the first down-filled coat. They also dressed the Italian Olympic ski team for the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France.

Winter Blues Turn the World Upside Down but a Fabulous Winter Coat Turns all Around
As the winter drags on and spring and its glorious fashion seems further and further away, there is one thing we fashionistas have to bury our winter blues away, the Winter Coat. This essential winter investment can give a lift to any outfit. As the first leg of winter comes to an end it is easy to update you’re your clothes with a daring new coat. This season is like no other, with fantastic styles, cuts, and bold colours found from the catwalk to the high street. Whether you want to go bold in bright pinks and yellows like Miu Miu and Chloe, channel the English Heritage trend in plaid or tweed as seen on the runways of Dolce Gabbana, or try out this season’s military chic as inspired by the designs of Burberry and Sonia Rykiel. With numerous selections available of chic and cost-effective coats, it will be easy to keep warm and stylish this winter!
If you are a chic chick on a budget then have no fears, all these fabulous styles are available all over the high street, perfect for the recessionista. Topshop has a new selection of winter coats including the military chic double-breasted ‘wonderland’ wool coat which comes in deep blues and bold reds and at just £110 is a perfect edition to your winter wardrobe. Meanwhile, Principles has come out with a beautifully structured ‘Tailored’ coat for £89, fabulous as an edition to a more romantic whimsical look. Dorothy Perkins has produced fabulous mutli-trend coats including the colorful wrap-around ‘Bow coat’, for £75 which comes in a fabulous range of colours including a deep magenta, bright yellow and sky blue.
With so many styles and prices ranging from under £100 to over £1000 there is no budget too tight to finance this investment! This winter don’t hide yourself away under dreary fashion, be bold and leave an impression in a striking winter coat!

I’m not a fan of the puffy down coat. I lived in Winnipeg for a few years and the long down parka is just not a flattering look. When you’re in high school you don’t care about being practical or about being cold, even if it’s -30 and you’re waiting for the bus.

To my shock Uniqlo has made the down jacket fashionable – who knew that could ever happen…

The Shop Bluebird had a party last night to celebrate Aquascutum’s Women’s AW 08 collection.
Michael Herz – Aquascutum’s Womenswear Designer with the very charming Jasmine Guinness Aquascutum is 155 years old and they still make all their core products in Northamptonshire. There are so many challenges for a heritage brand – how do you keep what’s unique and special about your brand while moving forward? When I think of Aquascutum I tend to think of menswear. They have a long prestiges history of menswear: in 1854 during the Crimea war British army officers wore Aquascutum coats, even Churchill worn Aquascutum. Over the years many fabulous women have also worn Aquascutum: the Vintage collection includes pieces worn by Marlene Dietrich, Bette Davis, Audrey Hepburn, and Sophia Loren! Spring Summer 08 campaign with Gisele Bündchen!
One of the coats that I love is the Indra Coat with Paralia hat. it’s very classic but modern at the same time and I love the print.
