Backstage at The Clothes Show Live

clothes show london Backstage at The Clothes Show Live

One of my favourite jobs that I do in the UK is run the makeup team for the backstage fashion theatre for the Clothes Show. I ran the backstage for the London show. I had almost 40 models and dancers to look after, a team of 15 assistants, various celebrity presenters popping through each day such as George and Larry Lamb, Nicki Hambleton Jones and the new hot "it"  girl singer of the moment – Esme (she’s on Destiny Child’s Kelly Rolland’s label in the USA and she just finished recording with Justin Timberlake).

Needless to say it’s a production of mammoth proportions. Add to that, that it’s not just one fashion show but 7 per day that last 45 minutes long with various costume and scene changes… and only about a 20 minute brake in between each show. The show this year was sponsored by Benefit, AOFM, Jessica Nails and RUSH for L’oreal. I spent months before preparing and planning along with the production team. There were 2 major looks for the show regarding the makeup. The dancers sported very Egyptian/ cat eye’s style black liquid eye liner and wore hot pink lipstick by Benefit call Nice Knickers  and the models were done up in sexy oversized silver smoky eyes with Benefit’s coral toned lipstick in My Treat. I also did a makeup demo on the Style Stage both the Friday and Saturday to show audience members how to achieve this look for themselves.

What I enjoy most about this job is that all the models, dancers, dressers come together and hang like a little family — there are a lot of laughs and good times backstage. I cant wait until December to work on the next production or the Birmingham Clothes Show!

Zooey deschanel Rimmel(1) Rimmels Lash Accelerator Look out lash lover’s!! Rimmel’s launching a new mascara come this September called Lash Accelerator. This new product works as both a cosmetic and a treatment. Every time you use Lash Accelerator it not only makes up your eye lashes but works its inner magic to promote lash growth. Use for a month to see results of thicker and fuller lashes…sounds good to me! Rimmel’s also got a new spokes model, the super quirky and cute actress/songstress Zooey Deschanel.

Soap & Glory – Arch De Triumph!

Posted by Rachel Wood on June 15th, 2010

Soap & Glory Arch De Triumph! For anyone who really struggles with their brows, I’ve found a fab solution – Soap & Glory’s Arch De Triumph. This cosmetic product is a double ended pencil: one side brow shaper and the other highlighter, but what’s so super about this makeup pencil is that on the back of the package it has various pop out eye brow shaped stencils. A fantastic guide for filling in or shaping. Perfect for the eyebrow novice or those who are looking to try out new types of brow shapes too. It also gives step by step instructions on how to perfect your grooming technique. Makes brow work like paint by numbers- pretty fool proof!

Neha Morjaria – Make-up is Art

NehaMorjaria Neha Morjaria Make up is Art

Neha Morjaria is a former makeup assistant of mine. She is a talented part of my crew and has worked as part of my backstage team for fashion week and the clothes show. Neha is now taking the word "artist" from makeup artist to a whole new level. She’s taking inspiration from the world of fashion, makeup & beauty and turning it into beautiful art with snowballing success. Her art works feature models from fashion industry photography surrounded in a sea of colour. I love how they have a slightly ’80s feel to them.  She will be showcasing her artwork at the Art in Mind exhibition at the Brick Lane gallery in November which specialises in Urban Art.

MonaVie – Super Food for Super Skin

Posted by Rachel Wood on April 29th, 2010

Mon avie MonaVie Super Food for Super SkinRecently I discovered a new drink product that has taken the USA by storm – MonaVie. I was turned on to this wonder beverage in by fitness expert and New York City personal trainer Matt Townsend.

This superfood-packed beverage contains the Acai berry from Brazil and 18 other beneficial fruits. 4 ounces of this drink is like having 13 servings of fruit and vegetables. Besides all the obvious health benefits, a big result has been terrific looking skin. Now that was something this makeup artist had to put to the test! Matt suggested I drink a shot glass sized amount every morning for 30 days. The results were pretty astounding. My complexion was clear and my skin beamed bright. I love beauty products that work from the inside out. It even comes in a very fashion friendly wine shaped bottle. During last NY fashion week, I found MonaVie mixed cocktails at some of the parties… I’m not really sure you can consider it a superfood when you mix it with vodka but it sure did make a super cocktail. Also for a backstage boost MonaVie do an energy drink, which doesn’t make you crash and burn like caffeine. They have been very handy for me to have in my makeup kit when working crazy hours to give me some much needed stamina.
