The Art of Being by Elizabeth Emanuel will be doing a catwalk show at London Fashion Week. I’m so excited about styling this show as I have so much fun just being in Elizabeth’s studio. Elizabeth is one of those people that you can’t help but adore. She’s just so inspiring and fun! I love all the fabrics and embellishment plus we are working with a very lovely, dedicated team.
This collection is all about the little black dress. It’s a capsule collection of ready-to-wear designs and some made-to-order pieces. (David and Elizabeth Emanuel designed a black dress for Princess Diana’s first public engagement with the Prince of Wales. The dress was recently sold for £192,000 at auction to a fashion museum in Santiago, Chile). We all have that little black dress in our wardrobe that’s a staple and every season there is that new little black dress that you’re dying to have. I love the LBD and don’t feel like I can ever have too many black dresses!

The shopping experience and the purchase of a fabulous dress can give you such a high but would you feel just as happy hiring a dress? Part of me likes the idea of hiring a dress. Maybe you’re going to a special event and you know you’ll wear the dress only once, like most celebrities – they only wear a dress once to an event. So maybe hiring a dress is shopping like a celebrity? Men have been hiring tuxedos for many many years so why can’t a women rent a dress?
At Girl Meets Dress you can hire a Jasmine de Milo dress for £176.00 (originally £579) or a Philip Lim silk dress with gold lame for £145 (originally £490) for a 2-night rental, which in includes dry cleaning. If you’re hesitant about the fit of your dress don’t worry as you have 2 hours from the time the courier arrives at your door and you’ve signed for the package to notify Girl Meets Dress and you can return or exchange the dress. I like the idea and the concept but I’m not sure. I like to own my clothes as they all carry memories for me and I wear all my dresses more than once. Would you rent a dress?

Philip Lim- £145 (originally £490) Suzannah -£74.00 (originally £350) Marni – £193.00 (originally £907)

I could easily wear something from Patricia Field’s shop in New York and I already have a drawer full of M&S underwear, but why am I reluctant to buy Patricia Field for M&S? I love the black sequin dress – you could have it for years in your wardrobe – for only £125.00 it seems a steal! I can’t resist the 1/2 gloves and the Red Hot Asymmetric Dress is only £65. I know it’s all a good deal and lots of women will love it. It hits all the marks: nice shapes, good fabrics, good price points, good selection – over 25 different pieces. Maybe it’s just too easy to go to M&S and find a hot Sex in the City dress?

The Short Leather Gloves – designed by Patricia Field
£15.00 – Very CB.

Maybe M&S and Patricia Field have made it a bit too easy. I know so many women have so little time to shop so Patricia Field’s collection could be the perfect solution, but for me I enjoy the hunt, the challenge – the true longing for that perfect dress.

I recently met with the lovely Leon Bailey Green. He is an online marketing and branding consultant. He is also the director of marketing for OSOYOU.

OSOYOU is one stop shop which helps shoppers navigate their way round the internet. If you’re looking for a little black dress OSOYOU is going to give you a selection from many different shops – my search results gave me “18,947 items “! Of course this is a lot of dresses but it’s really only about 30 pages and I could have refined my search. So really it’s just not a lot of click-throughs to find the perfect dress!
Dawn Bebe is the Managing Director of OSOYOU and if it wasn’t for her and all her persistence and hard work we would not have Grazia!! She’s responsible for bringing Grazia to the UK! It’s one of my favourite weekly reads

Black Silk blend with a lace overlay Lace trapeze dress by Marchesa at Net-a-Porter.com
£630.00
I’m a sucker for 3/4 length sleeve and dresses that nip in at the waist. I’m also not big on saving a dress for a special occasion – what if nothing every happens? I’d have this perfectly wonderful dress and might never get a chance to wear it. I think that if I wear the dress, that the day itself will be an occasion, maybe something special will happen – or I should simply enjoy life as it is! I don’t assume that one should live life there is no tomorrow and really I’m not sure how I would live if I knew there was no tomorrow – actually I might not care what I’m wearing… Anyway I’m not a pessimist by nature, perhaps it’s my optimism that suggests live life now, dress up!
