I’ve always liked Lily Allen. I loved her style in the video Smile: a vintage prom dress, trainers and gold hoop earrings. It was such an original look that the high street chain New Look worked with Lily Allen to launch her first capsule clothing line Lily Loves Lily Allen for New Look.
Smile was released in July 2006 when Lily was just 21. Ok, two years later she not only looks svelte but very polished. There was something slightly disheveled and unique that I first really liked about her style. Today it’s a more polished and label conscience look. As you get older your style does grows and change, and for artists this happens at an exponential rate. You earn more money, more people are watching you, designers are giving you things, more people are telling you how you should look, and what you are wearing becomes more important. Of course we know that Lily’s always done everything on her own terms. Right from the beginning she didn’t listen to her record label and she put demos on her myspace.
Anyway, it might look like it’s all about the Armand Basi outfit, Chanel accessories, and YSL heels but it’s still good to know that if Lily doesn’t like it she won’t wear it.
PS. Don’t you love that she’s still wearing hoop earrings!
Why does every celebrity think they have to carry a Chanel 2.55?

(Photo by Bauer-Griffin) I was a bit shocked to see Lily Allen as a blond but the more I look at her, the more I like it. I have never been a blond and with my olive skin tones I don’t think it’s for me. I’ve had all sorts of colours in my hair. When I was at university every time I dyed some fabric I’d stick my head in the vat, it was mainly pink and orange. I tried to dye it navy blue once but the colour didn’t really stay in. Recently I had a friend who bought some hair dye from Boots and she didn’t do the 48 hour dye test – how many of us really do? Anyway she had an allergic reaction to the hair dye – her whole face was completely swollen! It took a couple of weeks for all the swelling to go down. So either do the test or go to the pros!
I love this picture of Lily with the Chanel sunglasses. These glasses are fab, they are the Chanel round retro style frames with the quilted temples, style 5120. Dying your hair is great fun and it changes how you look completely. Did you ever wonder why most make over programmes wait until the last moment to show the hair and make up? I’ve always felt that hair is your biggest accessory: a good cut is essential and colouring your hair creates an instant change – a brand new look!

I love that fame hasn’t changed Lily’s personal style: she’s just expanded her wardrobe and slimmed down from a size 12 to an 8. This Chanel dress is perfect for her shape and shows off her curves. The sequence detail on the rib cage creates a slimming effect, the bow and halter neck are quite sexy. The red nails, red lips and Chanel clutch add a touch of glamour, reminding us of starlets of past decades. The star jewellery is fun and keeps the look youthful. This look is all about a girl with personal style and Lily’s got it in spades!
