Red or Dead Eye Ball

Posted by Rebekah Roy on October 8th, 2008

I went to a wonderful event for Red or Dead at Home House in central London. Red or Dead designs footwear, watches, handbags, sunglasses but tonight was all about spectacles. The presentation was truly unique as you could view the spectacles at eye level – (if you’re 5′ 2") and you can easily see all the detail. Most of the shape were rectangular which actually suits a wide variety of face shapes. Some of the prints were amazing from edgy black & white frames to lipstick & leopard prints.

It’s amazing how important eyewear has become. It can completely change how you look. It gives you a specific style the moment you put on a pair of glasses. I think if you wear glasses it would be great to have three pairs. You might think three pairs are extravagant but this collection is quite reasonably priced and available at Specsavers.

This fabric and print was created especially for Red or Dead eyewear and will be used as part of the packaging.

Chocolate martinis, mojitos and the most delectable h’orderves, everything from mini quiches to hamburgers, fish & chip and even shepherds pie. I was stuffed but of course I couldn’t resist the chocolate martinis!

Clare Copland, on the left designed the dresses for the Red or Dead event! Creative director Katie Greenyer is in the middle and wearing one of the dress with a great leather belt. How fab is she! She’s been the creative director for 16 years and has over 600 pairs of shoes, and of course some great handbags!

We are wearing the invites for the event. The marketing is all very cheeky but very clever – very Red or Dead.

The team from On|Off are great fans of Katey’s; you’d understand she’s the kind of girl that once you’ve met her you just become a fan. Lee Lapthorne is on the far left, then one of the prs from Chase, Clare Copland, Katey Greenyer and uber cool Diana Findlay.

Bridget Marsh on the left, is from Cosmopolitan.co.uk and beauty writer Katie Corcoran is from Handbag.com. Love this site, it’s been around for 10 year!

Would you wear glasses as a fashion accessory?

On|Off London

Posted by Rebekah Roy on February 17th, 2008

I really like attending On|Off - there are so many new designers there – I say new but many of them have been designing for years. The venue is set up in a very welcoming way: you feel free to look at a collection and chat with the designer and of course it’s a beautiful venue.

There’s a bus right near the V&A that drops you off right in front of the Royal Academy of Arts, so it’s very easy to get there after seeing a show at the BFC tent.

Lee Lapthorne at the final day of On|Off -this was the first break he’s had in weeks! He’s the creative director and producer of On Off.

Deborah Henning On|Off London
Deborah Henning: I really liked Deborah’s first collection, so it great to see her at On Off! All of her garments are manufactured in the UK, they’re well made, feminine and slightly edgy!

Vidler Nixon On|Off London
Kerry Nixon is the sweetest and most lovable girl that you’ll ever meet. She also has a super cute accent and is wearing one of Rizvis’ headpieces! She’s one half of Vidler and Nixon – Stefan Vidler is the other half. Cinched waistlines and full skirts – dramatic silhouettes – are their trademark with key pieces including their full-skirted ‘Marie’ coat – which I have been wearing in my dreams. I think I actually dress better in my dreams. And yes, I do dream about fashion…
Richard Sorger On|Off London
Richard Sorger creates luxury beaded and embroidered garments. They are quite stunning and I just used one of his dresses in Luxure Magazine. Richard’s celebrity clients include Courtney Love, Cindy Crawford, Bjork, Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Lopez – quite the list!! And now he’s off to exhibit in Paris!

rizvi millinery On|Off London
Yasmin Rizvi makes great hats so of course we couldn’t resist and had to try them all on!

Courtney Blackman & I are going to have a private hat party!!

This is Nina from Nina and Lola – Nina looks great in hats but Lola (not here today doesn’t really wear hats…) Nina is one of my favourite people – you might think I have a lot of favourite people and it’s true I do – but really the list isn’t that long – beside why would I want to know people that I don’t love and adore -life is short right? Anyway Nina is very cool and fun to hang out with – she’s sussing out clothes for her on-line shop Nina and Lola.

The Doll.org

A lecture from thedoll.org.

Lee Lapthorne
MA – Creative Director of doll was a speaker at this event. He talked about the
challenges new designers face and that once you’ve had your first a catwalk show why it’s
importance to be able to show each season.

What do you need to be
considered for On/Off?

You need the basics: a look
book, a website, stockists, proof that you are able to manufacture your
collection. Ok so you might feel that if you have all this you’re not a new
designer. But really these are the basics.

One of the questions
asked was "Is the new designer forced to be a luxury designer because they
can’t compete with the high street?” Maybe this is true. Also said was that
there is going to be a culling, a fall in the market as London i s oversaturated with designers. Any
thoughts?

Dsc04360Dsc04359_1Dsc04363 Anyone who meets Amiee
McWilliams
is going to adore her. First of all she is very striking, she’s
captivating, you look at her and you just want to know know her. Amiee spoke at
the lecture and talked about puting together her collection and all the hours
it really takes, and the team that supports her.
