Well, I have to say I feel very hip seeing myself in one of my favourite magazines! This is from the autumn issue of Zink Canada.
When Zink magazine said they’d like to interview me I was quite delighted and they asked for a picture of me so I sent them a typical headshot. Then they asked for something more editorial…hmm…I thought it would be fun to work with a Canadian team who live in London so Rachel Jones did my hair & make up and Christopher Dadey did the photography. It was quite fun doing the shoot for Zink although it was very very weird being on the other side of the camera. We shot around Carnaby Street -one of my favourite areas of London and even had a nice lunch in one of the cafes. I was a bit uncomfortable at first but as the day progresses I felt more at ease. Just dressing up was so much fun. I’ve always wanted to wear one of Manish Arora’s dresses but never felt that I had the right occasion; I felt like a super hero when I wore the sunglasses and the pink & silver dress!
I loved so many of the clothes from this collection. Harriet’s Muse isn’t about trends – each collection they continue to develop their style and take it to the next level! Here are some of the looks from the show.
Craig Spellar & Cheryl Partington named this jacket the "Rebekah Jacket"! It’s the first time I’ve had something named after me how cool is that!!
Erika is also one of my favourite models – she’s just so much fun!!
This leather corset is so beautiful – I just know it’s going to be seen in a really cool editorial – what stylist could resist such a show piece!
I’m really looking forward to styling Harriet’s Muse’s show, Mind Your Manners. I’ve worked with Craig & Cheryl for several years and I just love what they do. Their Spring/Summer 09 collection is so beautiful and cool. The show’s only a few days away, it’s on Monday at Vauxhall Fashion Scout. It’s a challenge to make a new collection and create a fashion show. The whole team has been very busy and working all hours of the day and night. Well, designing is hard enough but about 2 weeks ago someone stole Craig’s car which had several new patterns and toiles in it. If that wasn’t stressful enough today the power went our for a couple of hours in Kingly Court while the team was sewing away. Of course no matter what, the collection will be finished and the show will look amazing! Can’t wait to show you the pics!!
Fur Coat No Knickers is a tiny shop in Kingly Court just off Carnaby Street. The owners Laura Thomas and Emma Cascarina both have a back ground in theatre costumes which is obvious when you walk into the shop as the selection is well thought out, everything is beautifully placed and the more you look the more there is to see. Fur Coat No Knickers specializes in vintage wedding dressing; they’ll even close the shop and do special fittings for their brides to be.
Laura & Emma have already done all the hard work for you. You don’t have to go digging through boxes or scouring the markets as they’ve already selected the most interesting or valuable pieces. I love how they have decorated this stand with all the lovely broaches!
With a little bit of notice Fur Coat No Knickers offer tech-boxes in the form of roll along trolleys which they’ll deliver and collect from the theatre, film set or fashion shoot. (A tech box is a selection of items, accessories, costumes etc that a wardrobe mistress might need for technical rehearsals or fittings.)
Saturday Dec 15th 2007, 6pm: I was on my way to Harriet’s Muse in Kingly Court on Carnaby St. here in London (to pick up some clothes for a photo shoot), and all of a sudden I realized I was being followed by 20 Santas! Hm, I thought, that’s odd…
I went into Harriet’s Muse, and soon we heard A LOT of noise coming from outside, so we looked out and there 200+ santas show up as a flash mob! They were generally jolly (and drunk) and well-behaved. They hung around for about 30 minutes chanting and partying, and then dispersed to all the pubs around Carnaby Street!
We managed to shoot our very own video of a flash mob – enjoy! Merry Xmas!
