I went to visit Kristian Aadnevik at his studio in London. Kristian is warm, kind and friendly and of course incredibly talented. Needless to say he works very very hard. He just returned from Australian Fashion Week and he’s already busy in his studio planning the next collection.

Kristian set up his own label in 2004 after graduating from London’s Royal College of Art in 2002. Before then he won several awards and worked as a design assistant for Alexander McQueen. He also worked with Harrods International and Charles Jourdan in Japan.

Kristian’s collections are beautiful, glamorous, sexy and verge on couture. His dresses have a dark edge and a slim cut silhouette using feathers, leather, texture and embellishment with luxury fabrics. Every piece is stunning. Recently I’ve had a desire to wear more fabulous dresses and to feel glamorous. I just want to dress up. Kritian’s studio is full of so many amazing pieces that my head was spinning! I really have a physical reaction when I see things that I love, I’m sure my heart rate goes up – it’s like an adrenalin rush.

The Protégé Collection:

Jean-Pierre Braganza (mentor Karl Lagerfeld)
Kristian Aadnevik (Donatella Versace)
Julian Louie (Francisco Costa)
Ioannis Cholidis (Paul Smith)
Sandra Backlund (Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani)
Friedrich Gray (Vogue Australia editor Kirstie Clements)

Mitsukoshi is a great restaurant: lots of kaiseki course meals, shabu-shabu and sukiyaki, and sushi. Downstairs they have a magazine shop; you can find lots of inspiration there!

Tokyo’s Cat Cafe Calico

Japan Cat cafe2 Tokyos Cat Cafe Calico

I’ve always liked pets and animals. I think it’s an important trait that as a human being, we like to look after other species. So when I heard about the Cat Cafe Calico, I thought what could be better! In Toyko there are now 3 cafes were you can rent a cat for about £3 for an hour or £9 for 3 hours. Takafumi Fukui is the founder of the first and very popular Tokyo’s Cat Cafe Calico. There are 14 very clean cats to pet – they are shampooed and brushed regularly and you must have a thorough hand wash before entering the lounge. It’s very difficult to have a pet in Japan so the cafe offers a very unique and relaxing service! How cool is that!

I like seeing animals out and about, especially when I see a dog sitting comfortably on the floor at a pub or outside a cafe. While dining out in Paris, I was trying to enjoy my dinner but at the table across from me, a women had her small dog on the table, eating from her plate -that didn’t really work for me, but the Cat Cafe Calico sounds purrfect!

ElaineKim Elaine Kim at Paris Fashion Week

I met up with LA based designer Elaine Kim in Paris. I adore Elaine, she’s the type of girl you feel you’ve known since you were three, she wears her heart on her sleeve, and she’s just a really cool girl.
Elaine has loved fashion since she was a little girl. She sells everywhere from Saks Fifth Avenue to boutiques in Japan. This new collection for A/W 08 is strong and minimalist, she creates pieces that you’ll wear season after season and you’ll still look chic. Her collection is in silk and chiffon and is available in a palette of black, charcoal grey and berry.

Reebok Pink Kool Aid, Reebok & Aroma Therapy
I really like Reebok trainers and have worn them for years as they fit my feet really well. I only wear trainers at the gym and at video or film shoots. I’m really careful to make sure that I don’t have smelly feet – I change my gym sock after each use and have more than one pair of trainers. I don’t like smelling trainers. Nobody does, right? Anyway, Kool-Aid and Reebok have collaborated on the upcoming Kool-Aid Pack, which includes shoes and bright coloured T’s. The shoes feature scented infused liners in Grape, Strawberry, lemon-Lime – all the classics! I remember a few years back a Japanese designer was scenting suits with lavender to keep the businessman more relaxed! So in the world of aroma therapy how will Kool-Aid flavours influence it’s wearer?
