You’re invited to do something amazing. Enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2009 and simply walk, jog or run 5k to raise money to help beat cancer.
Join the thousands of women who will come together this summer to raise money so that Cancer Research UK can continue its life-saving work.
Race for Life is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK, where women of all ages and fitness levels come together raise money for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.
More than 1 in 3 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. Cancer can develop at any age, but is most common in older people. Around three-quarters of cases occur in people aged 60 and over.
Cancer Research UK has been at the forefront of progress in cancer research for over a century.
Since Race for Life began in 1994, death rates for:
• ovarian cancer have dropped by around 10%
• lung cancer have dropped by almost a fifth
• bowel cancer have dropped by more than a fifth
• cervical cancer have dropped by more than 40%
• breast cancer has fallen by almost a fifth over the past 10 years (and almost two thirds of women diagnosed with breast cancer today are now likely to survive for at least 20 years).
But we still have so much work to do to beat cancer. This year we need to raise £62.5 million so we can keep the momentum going to achieve our vision of beating cancer.
Cancer Research UK is almost entirely funded by donations from the public so every penny raised in Race for Life sponsorship goes towards funding the work of over 4,500 doctors, nurses and scientists dedicated to finding new ways to diagnose, prevent and treat cancer.
Over four million women have taken part in Race for Life in the past fifteen years, raising over £240 million for Cancer Research UK’s world-class research. It’s thanks to the generosity our supporters and those taking part in Race for Life that has helped Cancer Research UK make a difference to people with cancer.
There is no prize for first place – you can walk, jog or run the 5k course at your own pace. Almost half of Race for Life participants chose to walk at their event.
There are over 230 Race for Life events taking place across the UK during May, June and July so there is bound to be one near you.
Do something amazing this summer and enter now at www.raceforlife.org or by calling 0871 641 2282.
And if you can’t take part for whatever reason, you can do your bit to help Race for Life by inviting every woman you know to take part.

Fashion.Music.Style is a new independent magazine. There is never a good time to start a new magazine but Sarah Hardy the Publisher & Editor-in-Chief just felt there was a niche missing in the marketplace and she has a great passion for Indie bands! The magazine features new talent and unsigned bands alongside industry icons - including profiles, interviews, fashion shoots, events and reviews.
We shot the bands in central London. It was quite good fun - for most of the bands it was their first photo shoot, so it’s really to cool be part of something right from the beginning!

The magazine launches November 24th for the December/January issue. What’s cool about this magazine is it comes with a CD of 5 unsigned bands. The first issue’s CD features Younghearts, The Black Lies, No Picasso, Sol Devious and Alex Starling. The bands will also be performing at the launch party with DJs George (Screaming 66), Princesses Des Pommes, Mike South and Jamie (Grimble & Porn).

Gibson Hall was built in 1865 and named after its architect, John Gibson. It’s a beautiful Victorian building and the entire interior has been restored. It’s considered one of the greatest of the City’s banking halls and this was the first time it was used for a fashion event which made the evening just that much more special.

It’s great to have something special just for men. For women there are often manicures, make-up artists, even tea cup readers - but men seem to get a bit neglected at PR events. Not at this one! How many men have the chance to have a wet shave from a professional barber and general facial pampering? The Smirnoff Black and Hugo Boss Boutique Barbers offered a shave during the evening using premier skin care products from Hugo Boss as part of this traditional shave.

I can just envision city boys wearing Hugo Boss suits enjoying a shave!

The interior is elegant, stylish & sophisticated and has imposing Corinthian marble columns with beautiful crystal chandeliers. I just couldn’t help but feel a bit giddy - maybe it was the yummy Smirnoff Black Collins cocktail, prepared by a professional clean shaven (handsome) Smirnoff bartender!

I really enjoy going to events like this; you get see places that you would never normally go to and you just feel lucky!

The Smirnoff Black Boutique Barbers with Hugo Boss is available at selected Hugo Boss stores in London for the month of November and December. The boutiques are open 2pm - 8pm Thursdays, and 2pm - 7pm Friday to Saturday. Tickets are £15.00, and the shave also includes a cocktail! You can book a shave by calling 079 3126 5015.

I like hats. When I’m wearing a hat I feel very self-conscious but at the same time quite special. Hats have always been an indicator of social status - perhaps this is why we feel special when we’re wearing a hat, or it might just be the whimsical nature of hats with so many delightful trimmings!

I’m not a girl obsessed with a particular camera even though I’m taking pictures every day. Recently I saw the Lumix G Micro System Digital Interchangeable Lens Camera with Micro Four Thirds Standard. It fit my hand perfectly and I knew it should be mine. This camera is really made & marketed for a girl and it’s available in black, blue and red. It has high definition video - great for fashion shows and events!
