There’s something very zen about this video – if you just relax and watch it it’s insightful somehow. We usually only see models like Lara Stone in still or quick edits in a video or fashion show exerpt, so it’s nice to see a long video of her – you actually get a chance to see glimpses of her as opposed to the model Lara Stone…
Karl Lagerfeld and Coco Chanel have designed some interesting costumes for ballet – Coco Chanel created the original costumes for George Balanchine’s 1929 Apollo (and had an affair with its composer, Igor Stravinsky).
Karl Lagerfeld designed a tutu exclusively for British National Ballet’s revival of the Fokine solo number in The Dying Swan. Three women worked for 100 hours to create it from tulle and 2,500 feathers! Here is a video of private performance by Senior Principal dancer Elena Glurdjidze in the Chanel Couture Salon.
Fashionists loved the costume but ballet critics were divided, as many felt that the feather collar and the tutu sat too high on the waist, ruining the lines of the body and making the dancer look plump. I liked the costume but I’m not sure that if I was in the audience that I wouldn’t be constantly flashed, seeing Elena Glurdjidze’s bottom! I do wish that Lagerfeld had designed for the men too – I find it quite distracting seeing them in their tights – is it a rule that the lead male dancer always has the biggest package? I haven’t seen that many ballet performances but as a trend spotter I have to call it as I see it…
I can’t wait to see Audrey Tautou in the movie Coco Before Chanel, directed by Anne Fontaine. It’s a biopic of celebrated fashion designer Coco Chanel, based on book by Edmonde Charles-Roux. You just know it’s going to be good!
I’ve always liked Lily Allen. I loved her style in the video Smile: a vintage prom dress, trainers and gold hoop earrings. It was such an original look that the high street chain New Look worked with Lily Allen to launch her first capsule clothing line Lily Loves Lily Allen for New Look.
Smile was released in July 2006 when Lily was just 21. Ok, two years later she not only looks svelte but very polished. There was something slightly disheveled and unique that I first really liked about her style. Today it’s a more polished and label conscience look. As you get older your style does grows and change, and for artists this happens at an exponential rate. You earn more money, more people are watching you, designers are giving you things, more people are telling you how you should look, and what you are wearing becomes more important. Of course we know that Lily’s always done everything on her own terms. Right from the beginning she didn’t listen to her record label and she put demos on her myspace.
Anyway, it might look like it’s all about the Armand Basi outfit, Chanel accessories, and YSL heels but it’s still good to know that if Lily doesn’t like it she won’t wear it.
PS. Don’t you love that she’s still wearing hoop earrings!
Why does every celebrity think they have to carry a Chanel 2.55?
Some things are not for everyone, but isn’t that what fashion is all about – personal style? Well, I love these Chanel shoes and yes if I had the chance I would wear them. They are sequine goatskin open-toed shoes with a light bulb as a heel that actually works!
Over-the-knee statement boots. You’ll have seen them at: Badgley Mischka, Akris, Fendi and Halston. On the high street check out Office. These boots are easier to wear than you think. Wear it with a longer skirt, skinny jeans, leggings or tights. Should you buy a pair? Will you see them around next season? You will but wear them well. A soft earthy colour will work great with Boho Chic and Black Suede will look great with Romantic Goth. Just be chic, elegant not cheap don’t think Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman….
Although not my favourite you’ll see lots of fringe at Gucci, Balmain, Anna Sui and this pair is from Christian Louboutin. On the high street check out Aldo’s. Fringe is all about personal style and it takes someone with true style to make this look work. It’s more than just your everyday Boho; take it to the next level and think hippy luxe.
The shoe boot has been around for a couple of seasons, but they are so versatile they have staying power. Will you see them next season? Why wait? I love this Fendi boot with the bronze trim, £385.00 at Browns. If the high street’s more your style River Island has a large selection. We know ankle boots look great with jeans but wear them with opaque tights and dresses for an autumn look.
