It’s offical! I’m addicted to headbands. I just can’t help it, every shop I go in I immediately head to the head-gear searching for my ultimate quick fix.
Shopping in Topshop at the weekend I shrieked with joy as I discovered a pair of Louis Vuitton style bunny ears and, I’ll be honest with you here, for a fleeting second I had my store card at the ready. But then, well what can I say? Common sense kicked in and I put them down.
I’m not exactly sure where my love for headbands derived from; I blame my magpie esque tendencies and love of all things sparkly and I think Blair from Gossip Girl has a lot to answer for too. Now I’m not talking any old boring headbands here, no plain jane alice bands for me; mine are big, boisterous and ostentatious. I like bling, I like jewels and the bigger headache they give me, the happier I am.
My most recent headband purchase is from River Island and it’s covered in feathers, diamonds and jewels. Another favourite in my headband collection is covered in hard metal studs, another is cream and embellished with jumbo mirrored jewels. I now have about 15 headbands and I just keep wanting more. I need help.
I’ve decided this shall be my signature look. I once met a lady who wore purple every day of the week. Head to toe she was covered in her favourite colour and even her hair had a hint of plum. Whilst I shan’t go crazy I will, from this day forward be known as ‘the girl in the fabulous headband’.
I’m deliberating whether I have the confidence to sport the A-list headband of choice – the bunny ears. First seen at Louis Vuitton (or Minnie Mouse I guess), they looked amazing on the models, on the Olsen twins and even Cheryl Cole rocked the look. But a mere mortal like me? Hmmm the jury is out on this one…
xoxo

I love these bows - I think they’d look great in fashion shoot but they would be so wonderful just to wear!

One of my earliest childhood memories is from when I was four years old, sitting at my vanity staring into the mirror and deciding that a) I need a haircut (I was trying to channel my inner Audrey Hepburn à la Roman Holiday) and b) I am going to take care of it myself, immediately! The next morning to my mother’s horror she woke me up to find that I had cut a large chunk of hair from the top of my head. To hide this hair tragedy my mother promptly covered my head with an oversized bow headband. And it is this small act that lead to my lifelong love (obsession) with bows. Thankfully, the fashion G-d’s, from couture houses to TV’s Gossip Girl, have finally picked up on this fantastic accessory and spring 2009 is at last, the season for bows!
What is especially special about bows is their ability to add a touch of romance and femininity to any look; it can even add a bit of cheeky girlishness to a tougher look. Chanel, Moschino, United Bamboo and Marc Jacobs were just some of the many shows which featured bows in their S/S collections. Unlike the past shows, where bows were featured as an accessory, this season bows are featured as part of the structure of the design, woven into the piece itself. From origami style bows at Marchesa to soft slouchy bows at Lela Rose, there are many different styles and options available to a girl who wants to add a touch of femininity to any outfit this spring.
From pins to necklaces to ribbons there are so many different ways to add bow details to an outfit. A bow around the neck or waist can add splash of flare to a traditional plain shirt or sweater. A bow headband or hat looks great with the hair down and pulled back hairstyles; very preppy chic. A bow pin is one of the most fun of the bow accessories as it can accessorize so many different looks. A pin on the back of a sweater, with hair pulled back is an elegant touch to any simple look, while a bow pin in the hair can be youthful and feminine. A bow ribbon accessorized with layered necklaces can make any High Street find into a unique piece.
The best part about bows is whilst they look chic they can be very economical. I have used ribbon purchased at the fabric store to make bow belts, and turn old black flats into ballet slippers by accessorizing them with a ribbon bow. TopShop and Miss Selfridges have large collections of bow embellished accessories with bows on bags, belts, earrings, rings, and most for under £30. My favorite bow find has been London based jewelry designer Anna Lou, who creates beautiful, fun, bright bow hair accessories and jewelry.

The ultimate bow is the hair bow! Love Lady Gaga!

Bow Shoes!
With so many available options it is easy to get excited about bows! So my fellow fashionistas, I hope after reading this you are inspired to add bow to your wardrobe!

Looking for that perfect gift? How to avoid frostbite and not mess up your hair? Uggs has some great accessories. I’ve never been a massive Uggs fan but I’ve been warming up to them. I hate being cold and I don’t like to look ugly and anyone would look super cute in these earmuffs!!

£58 at Shudoo and you can still make a Christmas delivery if you order before noon on Dec 22nd!
I recently interviewed Leon from Shudoo, and here’s what he had to say about the company, which has is one of those rare internet success stories of a solid company that’s been around for years!
Can you tell me a bit more about the company?
Shudoo launched as Ugs & Kisses in 2004 by former Saracens rugby player Robbie Russell and his wife Claire. The company sold UGG boots, but has branched out into other boot brands (Blowfish, Bumper, Snowjoggers) and also shoes (Terry de Havilland, Roberto Botella and Steve Madden).
A new website will launch after the January sales.
What makes the company special?
By Spring 2009 we will have much more brands for both men and women. We’ve launched a blog SHUNEWS (http://shunews.shudoo.co.uk) which offers celebrity style news.
We offer special discounts and competitions to our newsletter subscribers.
How many people work there?
There are seven people at Shudoo. Customer service, management, marketing, content and operations.
Why shop there?
Free delivery (something so simple which is actually a rarity in online fashion), wide range, telephone customer service.
Has it been busier this season?
Yes. The UGG Classic Cardy has been the surprise success of the year.

I did a fashion shoot the other day with ethically made clothes. 15 graduate students from the UK went to South Africa & Ghana to work with underdeveloped remote communities to create more business. The students worked with local artists and designers assisting them in the making of a new collection. The collection will be sold on line in October.

I do enjoy working on shoots - but before the actual day of the shoot the preparations can be quite stressful. The casting is vital and takes up the most time, then organizing the hair and make up and of course finding any accessories: shoes, tights etc that we might need for the shoot. Fortunately the better prepared you are the more likely the shoot will come together in the end.The models were so great and so much fun as everyone was quite excited to be part of such a cool project!
Anyway I was able to book one of the model for a show for London Fashion Week - which starts tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted as I’ve been working on several shows so it should be a good week!!!
If you like an item, maybe a dress, are you more likely to buy it because it was ethical made or is that just a bonus?
