"I met the Queen today" – this is something I never expected to say. I’ve worked with designer Alice Palmer for several seasons and she was invited to participate in Fashion Capital’s  "London as a Global Centre of Fashion" Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in Bromley. Alice invited her PR Alison Lowe, her assistant and me to the event – we refer to ourselves as "Team Alice!" We knew the Queen would pass by the pod and there was the possibility that she would stop and say hello – but the most we hoped was that Queen would say hello to…

I like simple cuts and prints for summer – so I’m loving all the Linder Sterling dresses by Richard Nicoll! Linder Sterling is a punk visual artist renowed for designing the 1977 Buzzcock’s album cover. (She even wore a meat dress in the early 80’s) Her art collage style is very distinct and in an age of pinterest and moodboards collage has become very popular – and Linder Sterling’s been doing it for over 40 years. She used Cerruti campaign images shot by Paolo Roversi in the collages on Richard’s signature shape dresses.

I’ve been a fan of Olivia Rubin for quite some time, and I’ve got quite a few of her dresses in my wardrobe, so I was quite happy to find out that she’s designed a collection entitled ‘Postcards From‘ for Dorothy Perkins. She’s previously done collaborations with ASOS, Oli.co.uk, Very.co.uk and Dune. Olivia is known for her signature graphic prints on a variety of simple feminine silhouettes and this collection starts at £35 so they’re perfect for a summer!

Lulu Guinness is just so super cute. So when I heard she’d done a 14 piece t-shirt collection for Uniqlo I knew I wanted to pop by the event and buy a t-shirt. The queues were long but happy shoppers didn’t mind as they were not only given an opportunity to have a special postcard signed by Lulu Guinness but the were also treated to an Alice in Wonderland style table full of sugary treats.

I love that Oxford Street is decorated with flags – it’s just so festive and everything is so ‘Go British’ with the Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee!

On a rainy day you may as well have an umbrella that makes you happy. I’m quite into tartan at the moment and I’m coveting this London Undercover umbrella at Oliver Spencer. The first umbrella appeared in the UK in the 12th century – they were already used in Egypt around 1200BC but for shade.

Outside the Chinese Theatre preparations were underway for the premiere the restored 40th anniversary screening of Cabaret. It was interesting to see how small the red carpet…

I’m loving the palm trees in LA – somehow it really signifies that I’m really in California.

It wouldn’t be right to travel all this way and not spend a day at the beach. Malibu Beach is beautiful but the Pacific Ocean is freeezing. There are lots of surfers – which just seems really cool and there’s even an American Apparel right beside the beach – so if you need a sundress, swimsuit or towel you’re sorted.

I don’t think I ever realized that Los Angeles would feel like a desert – hot and dry with mountain peaks that could actually be snow covered in the winter. It’s been really hot and sunny, and most of our shoot time as been spent outside – which is great. It’s always a bit disappointing when you’re in another country and you spend all your days inside a studio.

It’s understandable that everyone wants to move here. I worked with a makeup artist yesterday who just moved here from New York because of the weather. There’s lots of work…

I’ve learned that when one arrives from the UK it’s a good idea of have a cat nap after the 11 hour flight and then go out for dinner. It’s best to go out with a friend who understands how exhausting the flight is and it’s their goal to keep you up until 11pm or thereabouts so that you’ll be functional the rest of the week. This week is quite exciting as I’m working on three videos with Kate Nash.

Harris Tweed dog coats from the House of Holland!

Corrie Nielsen’s Autumn/Winter 2012, entitled "Vestiarium Scoticum" was one of my favourite shows. I love all the tartan and polka dot looks and her jackets with her signature shoulders and nipped in at the waist. She used Royal Stewart tartan, MacLellan tartan and Burns Check, monochrome tartan, Duchess satin and silk grosgrain with lace overlay.

This is Corrie’s third collection since winning Fashion Fringe in 2010. Corrie Nielsen graduated with a First Class BA Honours degree in Fashion Design Womenswear from Central Saint Martins and worked in bespoke tailoring and then at Vivienne Westwood for six years.…

These are my lovely dressers for Bath In Fashion 2012 and they are all 2nd year students from Bath Spa Univiersity, Fashion Design. The students were truly challenged this week as they had to dress the models for 5 shows and several of those shows had over 150 looks! It’s a lot of responsibility for a dresser to take on, especially if you haven’t worked backstage before. If you’re organized and really paying attention, backstage doesn’t have to be chaotic and stressful, it really can be calm and fun atmosphere backstage.

So many of my meetings seem to take place over cake with a glass of something bubbly. For the most part working in fashion is never as glamorous as it looks – but, every now and then it really is!

Just as you feel one fashion week is over I’m already having meetings planning the next! So many exciting projects to work on!
