I first met Gabby Young at London Fashion Week and you can’t help but adore her. She’s a big fan of Vauxhall Fashion Scout and was seeing quite a few shows there before heading off to the US to do a tour. One of her favourite fashion shows was Inbar Spector so it was only fitting that she wore one of Inbar’s dresses and with her red fishtail braid and bare feet she looked like a princess mermaid.
Koko was her biggest headline performance to date and it’s one of my favourite venues – it’s perfect for a cabaret – jazz event.
The show was like being at a circus complete with an acrobat. There were so many different choirs and people who joined Gabby on stage and it just felt like a magical night! It was a very happy audience and it was like being at one big party where every knows each other – even though you don’t, but it’s one of those rare events where strangers are talking to strangers and that warmth definitely comes from Gabby.
The Subways have been on tour for several weeks and they played in London at Koko. I saw them play there several years ago when I first met them. It’s such an iconic venue and tonight was an iconic performance, every song is like an anthem and the fans go wild! I hadn’t seen Charlotte, Billy or Josh since our shoot about a month ago as they’ve been touring the UK so it was good to have a quick catch up before their performance!
We were watching from the Royal Box above the first balcony, and got a great chance to video Billy Lunn doing a stage dive right off the balcony! Watching the mosh pit from above was a great experience and total highlight of the evening. It was amazing how all the fans were jumping around in a random yet organized way like some seething organism and they were crowd surfing and roughing each other up (almost getting into fights!) while also singing every lyric to every song! True fans!
This evening was the Phoenix Magazine launch party celebrating our 5th issue, which is out on news stands today. There are also free copies which will be given out during London Fashion Week. The party was at Jewel in Covent Gardens – I quite like the bar as I did my first shoot with Kate Nash there, and now Kate Nash is the Music Editor at Phoenix, starting with this issue!
Love our cover with Leah Weller wearing Ada Zandition SS12.
Me with Hannah Kane – the editor of Phoenix Brigitte Aphrodite DJed tonight!
Today I did a shoot with The Subways, which went great but the best part was they autographed a banana! Their new album ‘Money and Celebrity’ is out on September 18th. It’s produced by Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths)
I was quite excited to style this video for Daniel Stephens and Joe Ray of Nero with Alana Watson doing vocals. Alana was wearing a dress designed by Georgia Hardinge.
It was a fun music video to style – over 20 actors in it, and a very cinematic feel – it was directed by Ben Newman and produced by Pulse Films, who are one of the biggest producers of music videos and commercials in the UK.
Stay tuned – Pulse Films is starting to do fashion film now as well!
