Today I was at the Spitalfields Record Fair – it’s good to know that people still buy records. I have several friends who are always buying records but they work in the music industry, so does that still count? Anyway, somehow it seems that people still want to buy records and it’s nice to see the occasional artist still distributing their album on vinyl. The argument for print magazines is similar and there are still new magazines are being launched all the time even though many thought digital magazines would take over. I went to a magazine launch just yesterday for a new print magazine, StyleNoir. It’s nice to know and not just for nostalgia sake that there is still a desire for records and magazines.
I do love a good album cover, sometimes the art work can be very inspiring. So if you have a chance it’s worth a visit to the Record Fair on 1st and 3rd Friday of every month.
I’ve always been a little awestruck by VV Brown. I did a shoot with her when she first appeared on the music scene in 2008 and he was so beautiful and friendly, it’s not surprising that she been in Vogue, ID and was featured in fashion ads by Marks & Spencer as well. She also started her own business, VV Vintage, and modelled and performed for Ashish at his London Fashion Week show in February 2009. Her first album Travelling Like the Light was released in the UK in 2009. She is the most synced artist in the UK and has set up her own record label.
On Monday VV Brown performed her new songs to a very excited and super friendly intimate crowd at Birthdays in East London. Her style for this gig was more paired down: no makeup and she’d given up her trademark retro fringe and looked beautiful wearing a white outfit from Cos. She told the crowd that this was only the second time she performed her new material and her second album will come out in the autumn.
I felt like I haven’t had this much fun in ages – the music was great and VV Brown was powerful and mesmerizing. I’m not sure what the set list was but the second song was amazing and the crowd was dancing away, also when she performed a different version of Shark in the Water the crowd couldn’t stop cheering!
For the most part my job is quite fun and last summer I went to LA with Kate Nash and shot 3 videos in just a couple of days! One of the video we shot was for the song OMYGOD! and it was shot on Malibu Beach and in a large house in Pasadena where we had a group of synchronized swimmers! OMYGOD! is from Kate Nash’s 3rd album, Girl Talk.
I know I mention it quite a bit but I do love my job – and really what’s not to love about music and fashion?! Yesterday was such an exciting day as it was the launch of Kate Nash’s 3rd album Girl Talk! The launch party took place at St Martin’s Lane in London – one of my favourite hotels, and we were given The Apartment on the top floor to get ready in – as expected it was quite a girly day. My assistant Victoria, Evan (Kate’s hair & makeup artist) and I spent the late afternoon hanging about our hotel suite in preparation for the evening’s events. We’d been looking forward to the evening for quite some time – it’s quite something to have worked on the videos, and having several of the songs in our head for months now, and now we can finally listen to them with the rest of the songs on the album!
We even had this amazing pink Faberge Egg which looked perfect with our accessories!

Yes, Kate can hoola-hoop!
I love so many of the chairs in the hotel – love this Dali-esque one with beautiful shoe feet!
No party is complete without a Girl Talk cocktail!
What to wear – so many beautiful choices!
Room service!
