I like fun happy shoots. I don’t mind the occasional shoot where the model looks sullen, or deep in thought but there’s something wonderful when a model smiles. Smiling is a bit contagious besides it’s hard not to be happy in such fun colourful clothes. This shoot featured Samuel Thorley’s graduate collection. When Samuel was 17 heContinue reading

We shot this in Jakarta. In the early morning we went to the flower markets to buy fresh flowers for the shoot. There are never tourists at the market so people who curious to know why were there. I’ve always loved using fresh flowers for  my shoots, they seem to make things more real forContinue reading

This is one of my favourite fashion shoots and it’s quite special to me for several reasons. Before my husband died I told him I wanted to shoot in a forest and he found this location for me in Wandsworth Common. The designer featured is Hannah Williams, I’ve known her for a few years as she wasContinue reading

Today I was up at 4:30am to go to Bath to style and art director a shoot for Bath in Fashion.  We were shooting real people who all had their own style and were representative of Bath from a music artist to a rugby player! One of my interns was so cute and stylish thatContinue reading

Prepping with Emmy the Great for her Chinese New Year shoot. Emma-Lee Moss better known as Emmy the Great, just came back from Sundance. After two well-received solo albums, Emmy worked with composer Ilan Eshkeri (Layer Cake, Kick-Ass, Coriolanus) and wrote the soundtrack to Austenland, which is the directorial debut of Napoleon Dynamite co-writer, JerushaContinue reading

I’m waking up in the dark and coming home in the dark so it’s so nice to be working on Spring/Summer shoots with lots of colour!

I love travelling so I was quite excited to visit Zurich for a few days and do a fashion shoot. Of course I never manage to see the city I’m in as I’m usually in a windowless studio but I did arrive during a snow storm and it was magical.

Phoenix Magazine did a live photoshoot featuring six semi finalists for the Graduate Fashion Week Best of British for George competition. Each designer created a capsule collection that was inspired by the heritage of the local area surrounding their university. The finalists are Susanna Yi from the University of East London, Leanne Jordon from theContinue reading

Today I was working on the next issue of Phoenix magazine, which comes out during London Fashion Week. It’s a busy week as we have five shoots this week, but so far everything has gone really well and we had great weather for out shoot in Oxfordshire.

I’ve always wanted to style a shoot in the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel – the Victorian exterior is so beautiful! The corridors are actually very very wide so that during Victorian times women could wear their big bustle dresses and pass each other in the corridor without the dresses touching. Me with the talented makeupContinue reading

I love scouting for locations. It’s important to find the right set up for your shoot: it can make all the difference! You have to remember that one day you can have a beautiful sky but that can all change on your shoot day. I love these red apples but will they be there inContinue reading

Too many people think that a photographic studio is just about white walls – but many studios have lots of options inside. It’s great for editorials or commercial shoots to have a selection of furniture and even different textures of walls. Sometimes a couple of props can add so much to the mood of theContinue reading

Daisy de Villeneuve is the type of artist that once you start to recognize her work you’ll see it everywhere. Her illustrations have a unique child like quality to them: I just love them!!! She’s designed Topshop’s quirky shoeboxes, customized Moet & Chandon bottles for Colette’s 10th anniversary, designed for Nike, the V&A Museum, hasContinue reading

I’m really looking forward to styling Harriet’s Muse‘s show, Mind Your Manners. I’ve worked with Craig & Cheryl for several years and I just love what they do. Their Spring/Summer 09 collection is so beautiful and cool. The show’s only a few days away, it’s on Monday at Vauxhall Fashion Scout. It’s a challenge toContinue reading

My visit to Istanbul was great but way too short. The shoot day started at about 9am and I returned to my hotel room around 2:30am. It was a long but successful day. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how long you spend at a shoot when you get the right results you just feel so happy!Continue reading

I just arrived at my hotel as we’ve finished shooting & are all packed up. It’s 2:35am & I’m being picked up at 5am. Ohh the bed looks so cozy & is calling my name. Cat nap!

I’ve spent the past couple of days looking at models. It’s so hard to find the perfect model – it’s all about casting and the right model is 80% of the work. Summer is slow so everyone’s away. But really there are so many talented models. It can be really hard for a new designerContinue reading
