Today I was working on the next issue of Phoenix magazine, which comes out during London Fashion Week. It’s a busy week as we have five shoots this week, but so far everything has gone really well and we had great weather for out shoot in Oxfordshire.

I’ve always wanted to style a shoot in the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel – the Victorian exterior is so beautiful!

The corridors are actually very very wide so that during Victorian times women could wear their big bustle dresses and pass each other in the corridor without the dresses touching.

Me with the talented makeup artist Zoe Taylor and our charming hair stylist Ben Cooke!

I love scouting for locations. It’s important to find the right set up for your shoot: it can make all the difference! You have to remember that one day you can have a beautiful sky but that can all change on your shoot day. I love these red apples but will they be there in two weeks? It’s also good to have a backup plan in case of rain!
It’s also important to remember that you need a place to set everything up and electricity for hair!

Too many people think that a photographic studio is just about white walls – but many studios have lots of options inside. It’s great for editorials or commercial shoots to have a selection of furniture and even different textures of walls. Sometimes a couple of props can add so much to the mood of the shoot. Usually you might choose a location house – which is really someone’s home, which they rent out for photo shoots but in the right studio you can get lots of different options in a very shootable space.
