I love the retro powder room. These images are from One Whitehall Place, The Royal Horseguards Hotel. The chaise long, the mirrors and the vanity desks give you the impression that you’re in a time forgotten or a film set and you just want to have dramatic event or intense girly conversation like Marilyn Monroe in How To Marry A Millionaire, 1953, with Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall .

I was really looking forward to seeing Ziad Ghanem’s show at Fashion Scout as I hadn’t seen one of his shows for several season as I was usually casting for another show when his was on.
This show was one of my favourite shows. It felt happy, like an event, and it was one! To start with there was a kerfuffle in the photographers’ pit, but the show was like a wedding with an entourage of guests including a child bridesmaid that the crowd adored. What I enjoyed most about the show was the audience participation – when a dress came out that they loved, they clapped and oohed and awed. It was just fun to see people excited about a show!
Last season there was so much talk about diversity on the catwalk and at Ziad’s show there’s nothing but variety, which makes for very consistent casting, oddly enough!

I love his dresses from the back, they are so sensual.

This is BFC Tent at 5:30am in the morning, before the teams start to arrive for Paul Costelloe’s show.

The finally touches for the catwalk are all finished by 6am – it’s still considered a building site until 6am so the teams can’t arrive any earlier.

This is the hair and makeup area and there’s quite a bit of space for the teams to work. It’s wonderful to be in the tents early and see how still everything is and as soon as everyone is here the atmosphere is electric!

I’ve worked with make up artist Lan Nguyen for several years and we’ve done lots of shows and editorials together. It’s great to work with people that you know and trust. When you work with people you know you don’t become complacent or lazy – you actually work harder! Lan used lots of colour and I styled the shoot focusing on lots of texture. I’ll post the images once the shoot comes out in September.

Today I was working on the next issue of Phoenix magazine, which comes out during London Fashion Week. It’s a busy week as we have five shoots this week, but so far everything has gone really well and we had great weather for out shoot in Oxfordshire.
