Jan de Villeneuve - Models and Diversity

I've always been smitten with Jan de Villeneuve. She's blond with these deep blue eyes - she's got that Debbie Harry Rock'n'Roll attitude.  She's also my friend Daisy de Villeneuve's mum, and I'd wanted to style her in a shoot for ages so when the opportunity came up I jumped at the chance. It's not every day you get to style a super model. The images above were shot with photographer Roberto Aguilera.I love styling all kinds of models but very few magazines show diversity in their models. Recently I styled plus size model Felicity Hayward for Schon Magazine. In the past years we've seen Twiggy at Marks and Spencer and more recently Jacquie "Tajah" Murdock, 82 and Tziporah Salamon, 62 were in the Lanvin ads for the autumn-winter collection shot by Steven Meisel and Avsh Alom Gur's  SS13 look book featured 79 year old model Carol Goldblatt photographed by her daughter Lydia. There seems to be a need or a slight shift towards models of diversity.Maybe it's harder for the consumer to identify with a 'normal' model, or they've become immune to it, or are we really interested in celebrating diversity? It might just be more of a question of economics and we're just wising up to the fact that the baby boomers are really the last generation to have pensioners with spending power. You might not be familiar with Jan de Villeneuve, but she was an important model in the 60's.Jan de Villeneuve wearing Jean Muir, photographed by David Bailey for Vogue, January 1970Jan de Villeneuve photographed by David Bailey for Vogue, Portait MusuemJan for Olivia Ann May, Middlesex University fashion degree show in April 2012
