Only God Forgives is a visually stunning film by Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn. I couldn’t taking my eyes of Kristin Scott Thomas. She was transformed, channelling Donatella Versace and Carmela Soprano. I could have watched her alone for the entire movie. Scott was a chain smoking, aggressive, blunt but sexy woman in a very scary way. When I think of Kristin Scott Thomas I associate her in films like Four Weddings and a Funeral, and The English Patient and I have to admire her for taking a risk!
Only God Forgives is the story of revenge and how a mother is willing to sacrifice one son Julian (played by Ryan Gosling) for another. It’s a beautiful film, set in the Bangkok underworld with endless corridors, dark door ways and red lights. Unfortunately the film’s a bit too self important and not as significant as it thinks it is, but really I just loved watching Kristin Scott Thomas.
