Elephant Thread

The colour of this spool of thread was ‘elephant.’ Today I worked with an excellent seamstress, who showed me this spool and told me that even though it was empty she couldn’t bear to throw it out because she liked the name of the colour!

The colour of thread always used to have a name and now it just seems to have a number. It just seems a bit sad. A name is important: if I like a colour of nail polish and it has a cute name, somehow I like it more. One of my favourite colours in high school was called pink lilac in love.

These spools are beautiful, but now it’s somehow a bit of a letdown to me that their colours have no name…
