Quilting is back!

I have always been fascinated by the history of quilting so I was quite excited when Jeff Garner of Prophetik told me there was going to be quilting in his AW 11 collection. When I learned that he was going to cut up his grandmother Lola’s 100 year old quilts I think my heart stopped for a moment, but Jeff was right to reycle them. Really, a quilt is made up of off cuts of fabric and worn dresses etc so it's already been recycled once - so why not again? One of the pieces (the quilted jacket) is actually Jeff's childhood quilt - even he found it amazing to see it on the catwalk!

I took the image above when I happened to be on a location shoot just outside london. The lady who owned the house makes quilts but she had to import her machine from the US as she couldn't get one here.

Look out for Jenny Postle's collection from Central St. Martin’s MA 2011 Show - loved her collection!  This micro trend is growing fast and I think were going to be seeing more patchwork and quilting. Check out the Fashion and Textile museum as they are offering a quilting workshop!
