I said Brrrrrr

Posted by Leanne Bayley on October 27th, 2009

The nights are drawing in, the mornings are dark and dreary and there are Christmas adverts on TV. That’s right people, winter is here and summer is officially over.

Last night I decided to pack away my summer clothes until next year. My white jeans, summer frocks and embellished sandals, in the suitcase they went. But as I stared into my now empty wardrobe, I felt sad and depressed. I was mourning summer already and almost running to my doctor with all the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

I have to say, I hate winter. It’s not just the being cold part (although I do hate that) it’s the hair; harsh weather conditions do not bode well with my tresses, and the wind? Well I may as well not put make-up on in the morning – by the time I’ve reached work I look positively au natural (and not in a good way).

But I didn’t stay unhappy for long, why? Winter fashion shweetie dahling. I love winter clothes; the abundance of sequins, lashings of leather, a heavy dose of knitwear and a sturdy biker boot to top it all off. Ah bliss! As I dusted off all my clothes from last winter I realised something, I don’t need to buy afresh (good news when we’re in a recession) I’ve already got the goods, I just possibly need to wear them differently.

I discovered copious amounts of lace, which is obviously a huge trend at the moment. I found my gorgeous faux fur coat with pink lining, my old Topshop leather jacket that has numerous zips and a couple of tassles looks better than the day I brought it, I discovered a lot of sequins; hats, tops, dresses, all bedazzled with wonderful sequins – ah you know how much I love my glitz.

So, what started off as a bleak and depressing chore turned out to be a very exciting exercise indeed. I’m now excited for this season, sure I want to buy lots of new things; spotty tights (a la Lily Allen), a shaggy coat (I’ll head to Topshop for that) and a leather skirt to name a few, but the realisation that I don’t need to splash the cash to recreate this seasons trends is a relief to my bank account.

However, all is well looking good but it’s far too cold to have a social life. Now where is my hot water bottle and remote control, I said brrrrr it’s cold in here….

xoxo

Ford Models Supermodel of the World UK Search

Ford Models Super Model London Ford Models Supermodel of the World UK Search

For the past few days load of girls having been lining up for casting for the Ford Models Supermodel of the World UK Search. It’s not any easy decision – there are so many great girls but so few with that special something! The UK winner – who will be crowned in London on the 3rd of November – will then go on to compete against the other international winners to take home the Supermodel of the World title.

Most of the girls are quite nervous at the casting – for many of them it’s the first casting they’ve ever been too! Lots of mums with daughters – it’s quite nice actually. I think when you want to be a model you need to be confident and if you have support it’s just great! Modeling is just not an easy job – it’s looks easy and glamorous but that’s the job, to make it look easy! Most people get anxious going to a job interview but just think – a model can go to 12 more more casting i.e. job interviews per day!

Vogue.com’s Dolly Jones, designer William Tempest and Reaya Goldman, competition producer and Ford model scout will be the judges at the fashion show. The 12 finalists will participate in a fashion show styled by me with head makeup artist Lan Nguyen and hair by Tim Furssedonn from Toni & Guy.

I’ve already selected the clothes from the A/W collection of Jaeger and there are so many beautiful pieces. It should be a fun show!

alice palmer ss10 Alice Alice Palmer nominated for Fashion Designer of the Year at the Scottish Style Awards!

I wasn’t surprised to learn that Alice Palmer was nominated for Fashion Designer of the Year at the Scottish Style Awards! I’ve worked with Alice for several seasons as her stylist and her work is so beautiful and very easy to wear. She has a super cool sharp shoulder knitted jacket on Asos which I’m coveting!

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is host for awards and will be wearing one of Alice’s metallic SS10 dresses!

Gerda Spillmann – Skin Care

Gerda Spillmann Bio Foundation Creams Gerda Spillmann Skin Care
Ok so, I’m hear to lift the lid off one of the best kept makeup secrets in Hollywood- Gerda Spillman skin care and cosmetics. I was first introduced to these products by Hollywood makeup artist Kim Borio ( have you been listening to her Beauty radio broadcasts?- they’re chock full of beauty info!- www.healthylife.net every Thursday at 12:00 p.m to 1:00 p.m Pacific Standard Time -8:00 pm-9 pm UK time)This Swiss product lines clients are so super star A-list that I am not even allowed to mention their names in this article BUT I can tell you that the makeup artists on the set of such TV shows as American Idol and Prison Break and hit movies like Transformers, Ironman and the Notebook all use Gerda Spillman products.

I only have one name for their bio- foundation which is a mineral based cream – INCREDIBLE. I have never used a product where it was so thin and light but still gave great coverage with a natural finish. It helps protect from UVA and UVB rays. It’s also waterproof but since it’s a mineral based cosmetic it allows the skin to breath AND for all of you who have been reading about me raving on about HDTV TV-this is an ideal product as it’s so sheer it leaves an appearance of a second skin rather than makeup sitting on top of the face. It comes in great shades for the palest to the blackest of skin tone. Bio-foundation was twice voted foundation of the year; I’m not surprised-it really is one of this year’s great beauty finds.
