Leopard Print
Posted by Rebekah Roy on July 25th, 2009

We saw Christopher Kane’s fun and bright animal print cashmere sweaters on the catwalk for Spring/Summer 09 and now we’re going to be seeing more of it on the high street this autumn. Leopard print goes in and out of fashion but never really goes out of style. This is an image of Scarlett Johansson’s autumn winter campaign for Mango.

Fashion icons have always indulged in animal print. In 1947 Dior’s silk-chiffon African gown is a fabulous example of the post-war return to glam and the rise of the femme fatale. I think it’s interesting how modern this gown looks and if someone was to wear it today it just wouldn’t look dated.
Marylin Monroe wore a lovely leopard print scarf during her 1954 honeymoon in Japan with Joe DiMaggio. During the 1950s all the movie stars wore leopard print. Love this image of Ava Gardner!
