Catchy new single from La Roux – strong styling and art direction in this video! It’s refreshing to see this – a lot of music artists try to look like they don’t have a style because they don’t want to look like they’re trying too hard – but then they don’t stand out at all!
I saw Louis De Gama’s work quite a few years back at a London PR so I can’t tell you how happy I was to discover he’d recently opened a shop on Cheshire Street in East London. Louis is one of the most charming delightful people that I have had the pleasure to meet.
I
Louis de Gama gained a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design from the University of Westminster and spent his first few years after graduating working alongside Salvatore (bespoke tailoring), Tristan Webber and the renowned duo Boudicca. He spends most of his time in his studio, but if you’re lucky you’ll find him sewing in his shop.
His dresses fit me so well. They are very fitted pieces with sharp tailoring, dresses that drape over the body with leather straps giving the dress an edge. Satins, crochet and chiffons are beautifully stitched together. I love the fusion of fabrics – everything has an ease about it but it’s quite complex and daring. I want everything in the shop!
Louis established his label Louis de Gama in 2000 with the launch of the first collection for London Fashion Week; the entire collection was subsequently bought by Brown Focus. The label is sold in selected boutiques in LA, NY, Tokyo, Dublin, Athens and Lisbon.
The shop carries Louis’ diffusion line – LdG by Louis de Gama with prices from £45 – the dresses are great! The label is sold in selected boutiques in LA, NY, Tokyo, Dublin, Athens, Lisbon, and London.

The comp card is such a staple of the fashion industry – I think the last time I was at a mass casting for London Fashion Week I ended up holding 200 model comp cards (they get heavy!).
Fashion Television has a great piece on the man who invented the comp card: Auro Varani:
I love high heels and I usually feel like I’m schlepping when I’m wearing flats. Most days I’m running around preparing for shoots in flats or a small heels but when I go out it’s all about the shoes. I’m okay going out and standing around in heels it’s just at the end of the night and I start to hate my shoes because my feet hurt. Anyway I love the idea that you can purchase a pair of flats in a vending machine for less then £10.00! Check out Rollasole!
BLOCH roll-ups are also great – a bit more expensive but they’ll last forever and they easily fit into your handbag. Tons of celebrities wear them, Madonna, Sadie Frost and Elle Macpherson. You can find them at Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Harrods and Top Shop.
