Lulu Guinness OBE celebrated 20 years of her work in fashion on Monday, and unveiled "the world’s first automated handbag" as well as The Lulu Guinness Scholarship for MA Accessories/Artefact Design at Cordwainers at London College of Fashion. It was a fabulous party – at the Victoria and Albert Museum!
In 1989 Lulu designed her first handbag – a patent briefcase with lots of clear pockets and bright suede lining. The piece was sold through Liberty’s and Joseph in London. Her delightful quirky bags sell in department and specialty stores worldwide including Harrods and Selfridges in the UK, Bergdorf Goodman in New York, Collette in Paris, and Harvey Nichols in Dubai & Istanbul.
This party was like the who’s who of the fashion/music world – but really it was just some girls who can’t resist a charming handbag – Jade Parfitt, Jasmine Guinness, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Little Boots and Katy Perry.

I love this handbag. Who wouldn’t? It’s delightful – a bird cage – yet a functional handbag. There is a little mirror, and in each drawer there is room for lipstick, keys and money. The bird sings – amazing – the world’s first automated handbag!
Delectable drink! I love flowers in beverages.
My favourite couple – Richard Jones and Sophie Ellis-Bextor!
Richard has been busy with The Feeling, working on their 3rd album, they just had a baby boy (Kit Valentine who’s just 4 months old) and Sophie has a new album ‘Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)’ out on June 21.
FYI – The matching outfits were not intentional, even if they do look fab. Sophie was wearing a pink dress and decided to change at the last minute.
