Ugly Betty: The Book is fashioned to resemble the ultra private and confidential white binder known as "the Book" (the Mode magazine mock-up prominently featured in the show), this book has a paper-over-board cover and is designed to look like an issue of Mode that Betty edited herself. The book’s chapters are presented in the form of magazine articles based on the show’s storylines, all told from Betty’s unique point of view. Articles range from fashion layouts, "What to Wear to Work" and "Making Your Prom Dress Work…Again"; career, "How to Survive Your Co-workers" and "15 Things Your Boss Should Never Ask You to Do"; relationship stories, "Are You With the Right Guy?"; beauty makeovers, "Before and After, From Alex to Alexis"; entertaining, "Throwing a Quinceanera" and "Ignacio’s Recipes"; Pop culture, "The Best Telenovelas You Don’t Know About," and of course, the more serious pieces that are near and dear to Betty’s heart, "Proud to be Latina" and "Family: Bond More, Feud Less."
I’m not sure if I’ll read this book even though I’ve watched most of the series. It’s a cute concept and I think it might make a nice gift if I was 12. I know, I’m a bit tired of celebrity/tv-show books and I’m judging it before I’ve read it, so maybe you’ve already read it and can tell me why I should?
Knitting has become popular again. Maybe it’s because it’s getting cold outside and we are thinking knitwear or maybe it’s just something creative to do. It’s not about economics as it’s often cheaper to buy a sweater then to make one. I personally love the accessories, the little gloves, hats and scarves!
Rowan have some of my favourite knitting patterns. (I don’t knit but my mum is an amazing knitter – which is why I probably don’t knit – I never needed to!) Rowan Studio offers some very fashion forward patterns – from capes to cardigans – you’d never think that knitwear could be sexy but it can!
Future Publishing is introducing a new magazine The Knitter in January 2009. It’s a monthly glossy magazine targeting the skilled knitter (i.e not me). The 100-page magazine will feature 10 patterns every month and a trend section with catwalk fashions.
Brandon Mably designs knitwear patterns for Vogue Knitting and Rowan Yarns. On December 6th he’s giving a workshop at the Fashion and Textile Museum. He will guide participants in choosing a range of colours and how to apply them into a swatch. Intarsia and fairisle will be demonstrated as part of the workshop, along with knitting in your ends. It is open to all levels with experience in basic stocking stitch, which will be used as the main stitch in the workshop!
I am not a girl who wears bling but I do have a weakness for silver handbags and I’m not sure what that says about me. I was reading The Purse Blog and saw this Marc Jacobs Quilted Bruna Satchel!
I love that it’s quilted! It’s available at Bloomingdales for $1,350.00!
Fashion.Music.Style is a new independent magazine. There is never a good time to start a new magazine but Sarah Hardy the Publisher & Editor-in-Chief just felt there was a niche missing in the marketplace and she has a great passion for Indie bands! The magazine features new talent and unsigned bands alongside industry icons – including profiles, interviews, fashion shoots, events and reviews.
We shot the bands in central London. It was quite good fun – for most of the bands it was their first photo shoot, so it’s really to cool be part of something right from the beginning!
The magazine launches November 24th for the December/January issue. What’s cool about this magazine is it comes with a CD of 5 unsigned bands. The first issue’s CD features Younghearts, The Black Lies, No Picasso, Sol Devious and Alex Starling. The bands will also be performing at the launch party with DJs George (Screaming 66), Princesses Des Pommes, Mike South and Jamie (Grimble & Porn).
