Alto Clothing viral ad - warning: not for the squeamish!

Posted by Rebekah Roy on November 19th, 2008

This is a viral ad for the fashion ecommerce website Alto Clothing, which specializes in clothing for tall men (and if you can wear a 38" inseam, you are tall!).

Viral ads are special: the point is to grab your attention no matter what, and this will definitely stick in your head - warning: it’s not for the squeamish!

The ad was created by Neoco, a digital marketing company in London.

That has to be the most bizarre viral ever. Not sure if I like it - the gore doesn’t bother me - it’s just not a very intellectual. The ad for cyclist awareness with a bear in the background however, is pure genius!

    Hi Rebekah

Thanks for showcasing the Alto viral. Just to put some context to the idea:
The proposition was that tall men have enough difficulties (due to their height) but now finding great clothing was not one of them.

We then delivered a series of ’situations’ that highlighted the difficulties with being tall; helicopter blades, feet sticking out of coffin, etc.

The campaign had a very small budget and had to make an impact - which it did. The viral you have highlighted delivered over 1m unique viewers in only 6 weeks and that’s excluding the 1m+ viewers across sites like YouTube, etc.
It also collected awards for media effectiveness, and generated a lot of PR for the brand.

It’s not to everyone’s liking but the most important point is that it delivers on project goals… which it greatly exceeded!

Thanks again for showing our work and keep up the great work on the blog!
