"In 1941, a Swiss inventor called George de Mestral noticedcockleburs were attached to his dog’s fur, whilst out walking.Intrigued and realising the potential of this concept as a closure, hespent a decade finding material and developing a machine that wouldproduce a closure with consistent performance.
Derivedfrom the first syllables of the French words velour (loop) and crochet(hook), the VELCRO® brand name has, since 1959, been given to anextensive range of products that have simplified fastening and closureoperations all over the world."
